(4)Then they started off in this direction. They did not manage to reach Fort Qu'Appelle. They spent the night before reaching it. The next morning they arrived here. At once they told the priest, and set out. |

(6)So he took his horse. Then they rode off. As far as ten miles this side of Regina the priest took his horse. There that horse was abandoned. Too fast were the ones with which the priest's horse was going. It had used up all its speed. That is why it was left there. But those halfbreeds' horses had not used up their speed. They spent the night where they had spent the night on the way hither. From there they arrived at home. Those horses were all in a sweat from their run, like soap-suds. Then again they would be very dry. Then again they would sweat very much, like soap-suds. That was the way those horses were, alternately. And when they arrived, at once some blood was drawn from those horses; but it did not look like blood; it was like water. Thus those horses' lives were saved. The priest's horse was found; it had died. |
