Three collections of Plains Cree narrative
Sacred Stories of the Sweet Grass Cree (1930) collects the âtayôhkêwina — the sacred narratives — told to Leonard Bloomfield at the Sweet Grass Reserve in 1925.
Plains Cree Texts (1934) gathers forty-six narratives that Leonard Bloomfield recorded from Cree speakers in Sweetgrass, Saskatchewan — accounts of ancient life, war, and the powers of the world.
The Syllabary Texts (texts 47–113) bring together Bloomfield's unpublished materials from the Sweetgrass and Star Blanket Reserves — Series II, III, and IV. Many of these stories were written by fluent speakers in their own hand using Cree syllabics, and are published here in SRO for the first time.
