(29)Then Wisahketchahk went away. Soon he squatted down in a hollow place. There he was purged. All day long he continued to be purged. By noon he had almost flooded the valley. Still he crouched there. At last he arose. |

(31)Then, as the sun set, he threw himself over. He swam, to get away. He reached solid ground. He had got himself all dirty. Then he dried his clothes. Now that in which he had swum had dried. It was white, when it dried. Then he rose to his feet. He told how mortal men would call it. |

(32)«Mortal men will call it `Salt-Marsh'!» he said; «But they will take only a little of it. They will purge themselves. They will put it into water. But they will purge themselves only a little; not so much as I was purged. For my little brother Fat came near doing me an evil turn. And mortal men will tell the story of this; in time all men here on earth will know how I was purged. And so it is that I leave them these purgative salts!» |
